Whether you are an independent artist launching a career or a music lover trying to play unreleased mixtapes, demo tracks, and personal MP3s, adding your own music to Spotify is surprisingly straightforward.

The exact path depends on your end goal: Method 1 plays personal audio files across your own devices, while Method 2 publishes original music globally to Spotify’s entire catalog.

Method 1: Add Local Audio Files (For Personal Listening)

If you have downloaded audio files (MP3, WAV, or M4A) on your computer or phone that aren’t available on streaming platforms, you can load them directly into your personal Spotify library using the Local Files feature.

Step 1: Enable Local Files on Desktop

  1. Open the Spotify Desktop App on your PC or Mac (this feature cannot be configured through the web browser player).
  2. Click your Profile Picture in the top-right corner and select Settings.
  3. Scroll down to the Library section and toggle on Show Local Files.
  4. Click Add a Source and select the computer folder where your audio files are stored.
  5. Go to Your Library in the sidebar—a new Local Files folder will now display all your imported audio.

Step 2: Sync Local Files to Mobile (iOS & Android)

To listen to those imported desktop tracks on your phone:

  1. Ensure your computer and smartphone are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
  2. On your computer, right-click the imported local tracks and add them to a new custom playlist.
  3. Open the Spotify mobile app on your phone, navigate to Settings > Local Files, and toggle on Show audio files from this device.
  4. Locate the new playlist in your mobile library and tap the Download (down-arrow) button. The songs will sync and save locally to your mobile device for offline listening.

Syncing Tip: If tracks appear grayed out on mobile, double-check that your desktop firewall isn’t blocking local network connections and that both devices remain on identical Wi-Fi frequencies (
