Where Is Song Yiren Now? The Current Status of the Chinese Actress

Chinese actress Song Yiren (also known as Ireine Song), widely recognized for her breakout roles in popular C-dramas like Ever Night and The Best of You in My Mind, has experienced significant shifts in her career trajectory.

Career and Industry Standing

Song Yiren’s presence in the entertainment industry became a subject of intense public discussion following a wave of online controversy in late 2025.

• Online Rumors and Controversy: In September 2025, following the tragic passing of actor Yu Menglong, unverified online rumors and speculation on social media platforms like Weibo and Douban began linking various entertainment figures—including Song Yiren—to the social circle surrounding the incident.
• Project Backlash: Due to mass reporting and intense public scrutiny online, projects associated with her faced immediate distribution hurdles. For instance, her series Unmet Clouds, Unmet You was pulled shortly after its initial release, and her appearances on variety programs like My Little Girl faced edits or removals.
• Digital Footprint: Her profile presence on major Chinese review and database platforms like Douban saw temporary restrictions or removal—a common industry outcome for high-profile figures caught in major online storms, often categorizing them as “high-risk” artists. Despite the heavy digital backlash and floods of critical comments on her social media channels (which her team largely handled by restricting or filtering comments), Song Yiren maintained a low profile, occasionally sharing sparse updates.

Past Works and Legacy

Before the late 2025 controversy, Song built a prolific resume starring in romance and fantasy dramas. Fans worldwide grew to love her cheerful, petite screen presence and versatile acting in:

• Ever Night (Season 1 & 2): Playing Sangsang alongside Chen Feiyu and Dylan Wang, which catapulted her to mainstream fame.
• The Best of You in My Mind (2020): Playing the spirited Lin Xichi alongside Zhang Yao.
• The Inextricable Destiny (2023): Starring alongside Wang Youshuo.
• Different Princess (2024): Co-starring with Ren Hao.

Current Outlook

As of 2026, Song Yiren remains largely absent from mainstream active casting lineups and major promotional campaigns as the long-term professional fallout of the 2025 controversies continues to affect her industry standing. While her older backlog of dramas remains accessible on international streaming platforms, her return to leading high-profile television screens remains uncertain.
