Merging Your Musical Worlds: The Ultimate Guide to Combining Spotify Playlists
Whether you are consolidating years of scattered road trip anthems, merging your workout tracks with a friend’s routine, or just trying to clean up your sprawling Spotify library, knowing how to combine playlists is an essential skill for any music lover.
While Spotify doesn’t feature a single “Merge” button, consolidating your favorite tunes is surprisingly quick and straightforward across both mobile and desktop. This guide covers everything you need to know to combine your playlists seamlessly—and how to make your newly blended creation sound like a professional DJ set.
Method 1: The Mobile App (“Add to Other Playlist”)
If you are doing your music management on your phone or tablet, Spotify offers a built-in shortcut that transfers tracks between playlists in just a few taps.
- Open the source playlist: Navigate to the playlist containing the songs you want to move.
- Tap the three dots (
...): Look for the menu icon near the top of the playlist page. - Select “Add to other playlist”: Scroll down and tap this option.
- Choose your destination: Select the master playlist where you want all the songs to land.
- Clean up: Once the songs are transferred, you can safely delete the old playlist if it is no longer needed.
Method 2: The Desktop Shortcut (Best for Bulk Sorting)
If you have hundreds of tracks to merge, doing it on a computer using multi-select is by far the fastest method.
- Open your source playlist on the Spotify desktop app.
- Select all tracks: Click the first song, then press Ctrl + A (Windows) or Cmd + A (Mac) to highlight the entire list. Alternatively, hold Shift to select a specific block of songs.
- Drag and drop: Click and drag the highlighted cluster of tracks directly over to your target playlist on the left-hand sidebar.
Level Up: Smooth Out Your Combined Playlist with “Mix”
Once you’ve successfully smashed your favorite playlists together, you might notice that jumping from a heavy metal track straight into a lo-fi acoustic ballad feels a bit jarring.
